Our emergency humanitarian intervention in Pakistan
Almost immediately following this extraordinary monsoon rain, and in partnership with the European Commission (ECHO), the United Nations (OCHA) and with the support of the Veolia Foundation, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the “Fondation de France”, SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL took action to provide aid for 180 000 displaced persons and the inhabitants of villages hosting them, in Sindh province (Sukkur, Dadu and Mehar districts in the north, and North-Hyderabad and Sewhan districts in the south).

6 months after this disaster, there are still huge needs for basic services and a lot of displaced persons are still living in camps.
Therefore, our team on the field continues the provision of emergency assistance to reduce health risks related to water sanitation and hygiene practices.
Current activities include the construction of water treatment units and water points, water trucking, latrines provision, cleaning of wells, construction of hand pumps for more permanent safe drinking water solutions, hygiene kits distribution, hygiene promotion campaigns and waste management to create safer living conditions and reduce the risk of diseases for flood affected persons.
Even though the emergency situation is still going on 6 months after, the early recovery phase is also starting with the return of flood affected persons underway.
To adapt our humanitarian action to this early recovery stage, our team has a disaster risk reduction humanitarian approach to prevent damage caused by any forthcoming floods and to meet the needs of the beneficiaries in the near future.
SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL in partnership with ECHO, is implementing in Dadu District for 110 000 beneficiaries specific activities in the field of:
- Access to safe water:
Rehabilitation and construction of flood-resistant handpumps and water points for households and schools; implementation of households water treatment and control system.
- Access to adequate sanitation services and hygiene:
Waste management, disinfection, clearing and vector control, construction of household latrines, flood-resistant latrines for schools and health centers, hygiene kits distribution, basic hygiene promotion in emergency context.
In total, SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL is targeting over 300,000 flood affected persons in Sindh Province in the field of water, sanitation and hygiene, to help them to recover and resume their lives.
